Planning for power generation and water storage assets

Solutions for dams and hydropower plants

A dam structure and its reservoir.

Dams and hydropower plants require coordination between engineering, operations and maintenance before any underwater activity. The scope may include inspections and intervention support on accessible components, according to asset needs. The responsible engineer must define methods and control measures with the operator, taking hydraulic conditions, access and operating restrictions into account.

Applications

A scope tailored to your asset.

Feasibility, methods and required resources depend on the technical assessment of each project.

Water intakes and intake structures

The scope may cover observations of visible conditions and records of findings on accessible components to support maintenance planning and assessment by the client’s engineering team.

Trash racks, gates and submerged components

Assessment of inspection or intervention needs based on the design and component condition. Isolation and access conditions must be assessed before defining the work.

Shutdown and maintenance planning

Scheduling underwater activities within the operator’s timetable, identifying interfaces, required documents and conditions that must be met before work starts.

Traceability

Define the deliverables.

Documentation and acceptance criteria should be agreed in the technical proposal according to the nature of the intervention.

  • Activity plan and interfaces with facility operations and maintenance.
  • Records of inspected components and access conditions.
  • Findings report identifying survey limitations.
  • Documentation of contracted services for the asset’s maintenance history.

Integrated management

Quality, safety and environmental responsibility.

Atlas holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications. View our certificates and Integrated Management System Policy.

Contracting questions

Questions about dams and hydropower plants.

Does underwater inspection replace a dam safety assessment?

An underwater survey is limited to its contractual scope and may provide information for the responsible engineering team. On its own, it does not replace assessments, studies or other obligations applicable to the facility’s safety.

How is the underwater maintenance window defined?

The window should be developed with the operator, considering component conditions, access, required isolation and interfaces with other activities. Feasibility depends on a technical assessment of the service.

What information should I provide for a scope assessment?

Identify the facility, component, observed issue and service objectives. Drawings, photographs, previous reports and operational restrictions help determine whether additional surveys are needed.
